Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Treatment
Ever wish you could just walk on your client to give a truly deep massage? With Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy you use the broad surface of your foot to apply optimum pressure for your client. Your evenly distributed weight sinks in deep without feeling pointed or painful. Utilizing a stool at the head of the table and an overhead bar system you apply Swedish massage strokes with your feet. Being above your client it is easy to smoothly apply effleurage the entire length of their body.
As a child I stood upon and used my feet to massage my older brothers and their friends. In fact, I began massaging with my feet before my hands. Attending school I recall a fellow student lying down and I began to massage them with my feet… I was promptly reprimanded for doing something “so dangerous“. This shocked me because the idea of offering massage given by feet is so natural to me. With the parallel bars above the table for extra balance it is so easy to control foot movements there is no thought of danger. An ad for barefoot massage at a street festival first introduced me to AOBT. Knowing instantly that I would learn this technique I used the ad to track down the main website www.deepfeet.com. 8 months later I attended my first class just (5 months after having my son). I am now able to give a deep massage without wearing out my body and it naturally maintains core strength one tones my body overall.
AOBT makes up approximately 50% of the sessions I give. Having a unique modality to offer brings in new clients and my existing clients enjoy it. Since most of the time one foot is on the table and one on your client you can adjust the pressure to adapt to any body type. For those with large, dense bodies there are two footed strokes for applying all of your body weight.
Decompressing the spine, increasing range of motion and deepening relaxation are a few of the many benefits to your clients. You can give a deep massage without wearing out your body and it naturally maintains core strength one tones you overall. Not that it isn’t a lot of work. You will feel the workout physically and mentally. Translating what your feet feel and contouring them to the body you are treating keeps you focused. I enjoy having a very different massage options to keep the day interesting for me. I recommend to my regulars to trade off between AOBT which more on muscle bellies and my other massages which work more specifically on fascia and muscle attachment sites.
My practice revolves around loving what I do and being able to offer wonderful specialties to people who want to care for themselves. Take the steps to take a walk on your clients and love your work!
